We watch a film in the Sanctuary, and then explore its themes and meanings in Sunday’s service.

Sacred Cinema: Whale Rider

Worship Leader:  Todd Covert, Worship Associate:  Tracy Watson

Our occasional series of film screenings, followed by an exploration of the themes of the movie in Sunday service, continues with Whale Rider, a thought-provoking and powerful portrait of Indigenous culture in contemporary New Zealand.  The film centers on the journey of a young Māori girl who is caught between traditional roles and her passion for her culture, which is fighting for survival in the modern world.  On Sunday, young performers from Ngāti Ānahera, part of the “Learn Māori Abroad” cultural program (www.learnmaoriabroad.com), will perform traditional pieces for our Time for All Ages.
