The regular Emerson choir will be back on September 7th! We will be singing a beautiful Appalachian song "Down to the water to pray". Our first rehearsal is on Thursday August 28th at 7:30. The beginning of the season is a perfect time to join this delightful group. Our choir is an essential part of Sunday worship services. We sing everything from Classical to contemporary to jazz and showtunes. If you enjoy singing please consider joining the Emerson choir. Basses are especially sought. Please talk to Music Director Galina Barskaya or just come and join us for our rehearsal on Thursday evening at 7:30 at Emerson Sanctuary.
About Our Music Director
Galina Barskaya began to play piano at the age of 4. Originally from Kiev, Ms. Barskaya received a Masters Degree in Music with honors from Kiev State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. As a child and young adult she has participated and won many local competitions. Among other best graduates Ms.Barskaya was selected to work at Kiev State Conservatory and was serving this prestigious institution before moving to the United States. Since the age of 7 she has performed extensively in Russia and Ukraine.
After moving to Los Angeles Ms. Barskaya has worked as soloist, music director and conductor as well as a chamber musician and collaborative artist. She has performed at numerous venues including the Hollywood Bowl, the Wilshire Ebell and most recently Alex Theatre where she performed as a Featured Soloist with the Glendale Symphony Orchestra in their annual 2005 Christmas Gala. She has worked at Cal State Long Beach and Santa Monica College and is part of the music faculty at Occidental College where she serves as a principal accompanist, vocal coach and piano instructor. Galina Barskaya is also the music director at Emerson UU Church in Canoga Park and a founding artistic director of the "Musical Exploration" concert series.
